The benefits of fish oil for our body in folk and traditional medicine is an axiom that needs to be proven. The intake of fish oil inside has a positive effect on the condition of vision, skin, hair and nails, activates the work of the heart and brain, makes it easier to endure various inflammatory processes, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, is an effective prophylactic against the formation of arterial plaques, and for diabetics it is helps control blood sugar levels.
However, fish oil is also good as an external agent – for the care and restoration of hair.
Fish oil, extracted from cod liver and therefore also called cod, comes in three varieties: white, yellow and brown. The first two types are used in traditional medicine, as well as in cosmetology, and the third type is used in the production of soap and lubricants.
The use of fish oil is indicated for owners of dry and brittle hair who have suffered from numerous dyes or perms. Fish oil also helps to cope with two more serious and rather “popular” problems – hair loss and split ends.
Fish oil is such a universal healing agent due to its components:
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids of the Omega-3 and Omega-6 groups. The former include 11 polyunsaturated fatty acids, among the main ones are linolenic, eicosapentaenoic, docosahexaenoic; to the second – also 11 acids, the main of which are linoleic and arachidonic acid. These elements can not only effectively restore and strengthen the hair structure and give them strength and shine, but are also essential for the functioning of the eyes and brain, improving basic thought processes (attention, memory, imagination, etc.).
- Vitamin A (another name is retinol) is a fat-soluble vitamin, a fairly effective antioxidant. By participating in redox processes, retinol helps to normalize metabolism, and also accelerates cell regeneration, because vitamin A helps to restore the hair structure and effectively moisturize them.
- Vitamins of group B. Most of us need to replenish them daily, as we are regularly deficient in vitamins of this group. They take an active part in energy production and tissue respiration. Of the whole complex of vitamins, the most significant and necessary for hair is B7, or biotin. It strengthens hair and prevents hair loss. That is why vitamin B7 is actively used in the treatment of baldness in adults and seborrheic dermatitis in children.
- Vitamins of group D are an indispensable part of the daily human diet. They ensure the normal absorption of calcium from food, are involved in the regulation of cell reproduction and optimization of metabolic processes in the body. Therefore, vitamins of this group contribute to the active growth of hair and prevent hair loss.
There are two traditional ways to take fish oil for medicinal purposes.
First, it is ingestion. If you yourself have already managed to get acquainted with its unpleasant taste or have heard a lot about it, it is best to purchase gelatin capsules containing fish oil at any pharmacy. The instructions for them will tell you the dosage, frequency, and duration of taking the remedy. On average, this is 5 capsules per day for 1 month. Such courses should be taken 3-4 times a year.
If, for some reason, you nevertheless purchased fish oil in liquid form, you can “relieve your suffering” as follows: add quail egg shell powder to a few tablespoons of fat and carefully mix the resulting mass. Not the most appetizing taste of fish oil will soften significantly in this way. In addition, the resulting slurry can be used as an external agent.
Hair masks with fish oil
As an external agent, fish oil can also act as part of hair masks. As noted above, we are talking about dry and weakened hair that needs additional nutrition and hydration.
For dry and brittle hair
The next mask is the best. Take a quail (the best option!) Or a chicken egg, remove the yolk and combine it with 2 tablespoons of fish oil, which must first be slightly warmed up. Owners of long hair should take a double rate for this mask.
The mixture is evenly distributed from the roots to the tips along the entire length. Hair is wrapped in plastic wrap, and to improve the effect, a towel is also wound on top. After 20-25 minutes, the mask should be washed off. For hair in a normal state, it is enough to repeat this procedure once every 2 weeks, but if your hair really needs treatment – 3 times a week.
From hair loss
Another mask based on fish oil and various vegetable oils helps well. Fish oil in a 1:1 ratio must be mixed with other oils used in cosmetology (burdock, castor, coconut, eucalyptus, etc.). The ingredients can also be combined. The mask is applied from the roots to the tips and aged on the hair, previously wrapped in a film and a towel, for 1.5-2 hours. Repeat the procedure 2 times a week for 2-3 months. Regular use of such a mask will achieve a remarkable effect: the hair will be shiny and elastic, soft and silky.
If you have split ends
The following recipe will be very useful: apply fish oil to the ends, wrap your hair for 40 minutes and wash off the mask with shampoo. The mask is repeated 1-2 times a week for 2-3 months.
And further. In addition to the fact that fish oil can be purchased in its pure form at a pharmacy, we recommend consuming this healthy product as part of oily fish. It can be tuna and herring, sardines and salmon, trout and halibut, as well as everyone’s favorite shrimp. Be healthy and beautiful!
