Glycerin is used in the manufacture of cosmetics by many well-known manufacturers. It is also often used in recipes for various masks, lotions and creams that are prepared at home. It effectively helps to take care of the skin of the hands, hair, helps the growth of healthy and strong nails, but facial skin care cosmetics using this chemical reagent have gained particular popularity. But many are skeptical about this component, attributing to it an adverse effect on the skin. Is it really? And under what conditions can glycerin become an enemy of not only beauty, but also health?
What are the benefits of glycerin for facial skin?
Due to its chemical and physical properties, this chemical reagent, which has a sweetish taste, viscous consistency, odorless and colorless, has found wide application in various industries from the food industry to the military. It is also invaluable in pharmaceuticals, medicine and cosmetology. Medical glycerin is the cheapest cosmetic component, but despite this, it has the following unique, beneficial properties for facial skin:
- Moisturizing the skin. Glycerin attracts moisture from the air to the skin, saturating the cells of the epidermis with water, which prevents drying and flaking;
- Smoothing effect. This component fills micro wrinkles with moisture, so that the skin seems smooth and silky;
- Accelerates metabolism in the upper layers of the epidermis;
- Medicinal properties. Glycerin copes not only with dryness, but is also effective against skin eczema. However, it does not cause negative consequences;
- Protects the skin from the penetration of harmful bacteria and microbes;
- Effectively cleanses the skin of the face. Perfectly removes dust and dirt from the surface of the skin;
- Removal of age spots. Regular rubbing of this component on the area with age spots allows you to get rid of them.
In addition, glycerin, which is part of cosmetics, protects them from premature drying.
When and why is glycerin harmful?
Glycerin can indeed cause significant harm to the skin if used incorrectly and in violation of the dosage. It is not recommended to use it if the importance of air is insufficient, as the opposite effect is created, and glycerin begins to draw moisture from the skin, thereby overdrying it. So that glycerin does not cause harm, but rather actively shows its beneficial properties, air humidity should be at least 65%, which rarely happens in winter.
Glycerin can not be used for facial skin care in its pure form, it can provoke various skin diseases. Do not forget that, together with silicone, this chemical reagent forms a rather dangerous composition.
It should be taken into account that glycerin is able to wash out melanin from the skin, making it colorless, so you should be careful when using glycerin soap for washing.
Glycerin is natural and chemical, and their beneficial properties are approximately the same. But obviously, the higher the degree of its purification, the less harm it carries.
