Stellanin ointment: application, reviews, analogues

Russian scientists have launched Stellanin ointment on the market, designed to heal dry wounds. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of a regenerating effect with an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect. The authors declared their development as an ideal option in difficult cases.

The principle of the drug

Stellanin ointment is based on 1,3-diethylbenzimidazolium triiodide. Its action is supplemented with vaseline, povidone and glycerin. Upon contact with the skin, the acceleration of the regenerating process starts. The iodine present in the composition has a destructive effect on the enzymatic proteins of bacteria and the protein compounds of the bacterial walls. Due to this, a bactericidal effect is achieved.

In addition to protecting against the occurrence of infection, the drug quickly suppresses an existing infectious process, which has a positive effect on the healing rate of injured tissue. The antimicrobial effect of the agent actively suppresses inflammatory processes in tissues. After the active regeneration process has been launched, special care should be taken to use products with an osmotic effect to prevent overdrying of the new delicate skin. Here, the patient is advised to pay attention to Stellanin 3%, which has a low osmotic potential. It prevents re-infection of the wound and helps to maintain the process of accelerated regeneration.

Stellanin peg is available to combat weeping wounds. It has the same principle of action as the usual Stellanin, but differs in indications for use.

Application area

First of all, Stellanin ointment is indicated for dry wounds, it is also highly effective in getting rid of:

  • combing insect bites;
  • burns 1 and 2 degrees;
  • cracks, cuts;
  • bedsores;
  • abscesses;
  • hemorrhoids;
  • festering wounds.

In surgery, the drug is used during the recovery period as an antiseptic, as well as to improve the quality of engraftment on the skin.

However, the opposite effect to the expected effect is also observed in the following cases:

  1. Individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
  2. thyrotoxicosis.
  3. Presence of thyroid adenoma.
  4. 1st trimester pregnancy.
  5. Children and adolescents (prohibited for use under 18 years of age).

Important! In the presence of chronic renal failure or during pregnancy of the 2nd, 3rd trimester, caution should be exercised in using Stellanin ointment.

Application features

It is possible to use the ointment, both openly and under sterile dressings. The duration of treatment and the method of application depend on tissue damage:

  1. In the treatment of hemorrhoids, gauze turundas are impregnated with the drug and injected into the anus. In the presence of bleeding, the bactericidal effect is significantly reduced, which requires an increase in the duration of the course.
  2. Burns, trophic ulcers, wounds cover the entire affected area with a layer of ointment of 1-1.5 mm and cover with a bandage. The dressing changes every day. The duration of the course depends on the dynamics of the healing process.
  3. Cracks, cuts, small wounds are treated with a thin layer of ointment twice a day. There is no need to apply bandages or patches.
  4. Purulent wounds are treated with tampons soaked in ointment. Preliminarily, the wound is carefully treated with an alcohol solution. A plaster or bandage is applied over the tampon. Change the tampon twice a day, without exceeding the maximum daily dosage.

However, it should be borne in mind that no single drug can be universal for all patients. Individual characteristics of the body can provoke the development of side effects. One of them is an allergic reaction in the form of hyperemia of the dermis or the appearance of itching. In this case, the drug is canceled.

If the drug is ingested, a gag reflex and nausea are observed, which requires immediate gastric lavage and treatment with the instructions for the drug in a medical institution. To obtain the desired effect, it is also necessary to choose the right form of the drug. For example, Stellanin-peg ointment cannot be substituted for Stellanin ointment.

Often the drug is used in complex therapy, so it should be borne in mind that the combination with antiseptics containing alkali, oxidizing agents or mercury, as well as with agents based on cationic surfactants, can seriously aggravate the situation.

If necessary, the drug can be replaced by one of the analogues.

Stellanin’s analogs

In the absence of a necessary drug at the pharmacy or its individual intolerance, the specialist may recommend one of the analogues of the ointment, for example:

  1. Bepanthen, which is effective in the presence of slight skin damage, inflammation, dryness.
  2. Betadine. It is used for bacterial and fungal infections, burns, trophic ulcers, infectious dermatitis.
  3. Iodopyrone. Effective in the fight against acute purulent processes, boils, fistulas, postoperative wounds.

Reviews

An analysis of the opinions of specialists shows that the vast majority of them note a positive trend in the process of treating a patient. They pay attention to the speed of skin cleansing from necrotic processes, the appearance of new healthy skin, and the suppression of inflammatory reactions. Even in the presence of diabetes, the wounds disappear “before our eyes.” Reviews of patients do not always coincide with the opinion of doctors.

Irina Sergeevna, 32 years old: “The first impression of the ointment was negative. She treated trophic ulcers, applied in accordance with the instructions on the diseased area and 5 mm around it. As a result, in 3 days I received a chemical burn around the ulcer. Glad I only tried one area. Then it happened that my son had lichen, which they could not cope with for a long time. We tried different drugs, and when the doctor changed, we were also recommended to treat the lichen border with iodine solution. The problem was dealt with, and he also had a burn. That’s when I decided to try Stellanin again. Only this time I applied it with a cotton swab and only on the ulcer itself, covered it with a band-aid so as not to smear it. Now I can agree with everyone who speaks of the drug with enthusiasm.

Nina, 22 years old: “I wanted to cure a boil on my face. I used Stellanin ointment without any bandages and patches. The furuncle itself went deeper, and the surface thickened, felt like ordinary skin. And despite the fact that the ointment is so expensive.

Sergey Gennadievich, 42 years old: “I had to treat a big wound. The doctor immediately said that it was better not to experiment and use Stellanin ointment. The result is really wonderful, but you have to fight for it: after application, the whole wound just starts to burn. Burning…
